It's Almost Back to School!

As I walked through the grocery store the other day, I was reminded of summers end when I saw all of the Back to School items on display! Having been graduated from college for two years now I sometimes get out of the loop on when school starts. Having my younger sister Sarah heading off to college soon, we’ve been talking about how hard it can be to get a great education and save money while you’re doing it. Luckily I was able to give her some good advice about saving money on textbook rentals after hearing about! offers you textbooks online at a discounted price of 40-90% off the college bookstore prices.

CampusBookRentals has a new program, Rent Back, which allows you to rent your own college textbooks via online, allowing you to get a lot more money out of them versus participating in the buyback option offered at your local college! I wish this program would have been around when I was in school, I remember returning my books for less than half their value and it always made me so frustrated!

They also offer free shipping when sending and returning your rental book. If you decide to participate in their flexible textbook rentals, proceeds from each textbook rented go towards Operation Smile! Our Infinity Necklace

I've been up all night going through my jewelry and clothing trying to get rid of things I don't use. I noticed that many of the jewelry pieces that I wear all the time are things that have a special meaning to me. I love wearing pieces that remind me of a memory or feeling. This 24k gold infinity necklace from Onecklace is one of my absolute favorites and you’ll catch me wearing it all the time. You can see that my husband and I’s ( I think that's the proper way to say that!) names are engraven on infinity portion of the necklace! I love this because it’s such a great reminder of the promise we made to each other when we said “I Do” almost two years ago! The engraving is beautifully done and I can't help but smile when wearing this gorgeous 24k gold necklace around my neck.

Onecklace offers a variety of personalized jewelry pieces in sterling silver and 24k gold plated that you can have engraven as well. Their prices are very affordable and what a unique statement piece these necklaces are!  This is such a great gift idea for an anniversary or birthday for your loved one. I was impressed that Onecklace had fast shipping and it was extremely easy to place my order online via their user-friendly website. Visit Onecklace today and get yourself one of their unique jewelry pieces!

Seize The Dress

Today begins the start of my birthday week!! Turning the big 24 on the 31st of this month! I cant wait to celebrate with friends and family this week, I have always loved having my birthday in the middle of the summer and this one is sure to not be an exception!

With it still being hot Hot HOT here in Utah, you’ll likely find me in maxi skirts 90% of the time. They are so comfy to wear and I love the ones with the slits on the sides. (gives you a little extra room to move around!) I recently attended a RewardStyle night with some of my blogger friends and this adorable maxi dress from Maurice’s was from our lovely gift bags. I absolutely love the material and the neon design on the front.  I’m all about versatile pieces and with this dress you could wear it to the beach, to church, or on a summer date night out on the town. Visit Maurice’s website to see more of their amazing selection of tops, dresses, and leggings!

Christmas in July

After wearing this outfit to a recent summer wedding, I couldn't help but feel like I looked ready for a Christmas dinner party! I love the summer heat but there are times where I do wish I could just be snuggling up in my sweats with some hot cocoa. Only a few more months right? The summer has flown by!

This Party Life Sequin Top c/o SexyModest Boutique fits amazing and I love how girly it makes me feel when I wear it. It has a great shape and is perfect to wear with a high-waisted skirt. It's definitely a statement piece so I decided to let it do the talking and limited the amount of jewelry I was wearing. These gold flats I thrifted at Steve Madden and I was escatic when I realized they fit me like a glove. I'm all about gold can you tell? I'm prepping for the July 24th holiday and even though I have to work, I'm going to make it one to remember! Visit SexyModest Boutique now and see all of their affordable, modest clothing! Trust me, you'll thank me later! Happy Hump Day!

Tunic Love

Monday is here again and can you believe it's already almost the end of July? The summer has flown by!! After having such a great weekend it's hard to get back into the working mood but that's life I guess right? Lately I've been looking high and low for a tunic this summer and finally have found one that I love! This embroided white tunic is perfect for day and night looks making it a very versatile piece for summer fashion!  Click here to see the tunic!

For the day look I paired the tunic with some comfortable boyfriend jeans, flats and a light pink purse. It's a very laid-back look, great for hanging out with friends or a day date!

For the night look I paired the tunic with some skinny black jeans, some black pumps, and a bright red purse for a bold statement. Don't  forget the red lipstick too! I love wearing black, white and red together because it makes such a great contrast together.

Which of these outfits would you wear?

5 Books You Can Realistically Read By the End of the Year

READ MORE. It’s the one thing on my New Year’s Resolution list that seems to be reoccurring year after year. I really do love reading however I seem to put it on the backburner nearly every month, using Netflix and blogging as excuses to dodge the library. I know that it’s already half-way through the year so I thought…maybe if I blog about it I’ll actually do it right? Well that’s the hope! Today I’m sharing the 5 books I plan to read by the end of this year (in no particular order). They’ve all had stellar reviews and I can’t wait to get wrapped up in these amazing stories. P.S. Something on my bucket list--- Write a book. Not sure what I’d write about but hey, maybe one day!

I loved her book “Gone Girl” so I’m sure this one won’t disappoint. Her writing is to detailed and I love her unique take on murder mysteries.
I’m pretty sure I’m the only person on the planet who never read this in middle school. With it becoming a movie later this summer (featuring Taylor Swift I might add!) I figured I needed to jump on the bandwagon.
No I have not seen the movie yet and I do plan to read the book prior to seeing it on the big screen. I’m a sucker for a good love story and I hear this is one that will give you a refreshing view on how you live your life.
This also will be a debuting as a movie later this year starring Reese Witherspoon as the main character. It’s about a woman who takes a hike into the unknown after watching her life fall apart. Sounds adventurous and probably ends with a good pick-me-up feeling right?
Sometimes you just need an easy read that you’ll laugh the whole way through.  So naturally I had to have one of these books on my list. Plus, I’ve heard so many great things about this book!

Black & White

So last night was a little crazy to say the least! My sister goes to BYI-Idaho and there was a major flash flood right near her college campus. Click to see the hashtag #byuiflood and you'll see some pretty crazy pictures and hilarious commentary from students. Glad she's safe and hey her classes got cancelled so can't complain about that! I'm going to a concert tonight with the hubby and I am BEYOND excited. I absolutely love live music and can't wait to see my favorite artist in concert! More of that later this week...

There is something about black & white photos, I fall in love with them no matter what the photograph is of. The colors of these photos turned out a little strange so I converted them to black & white, just for fun. I love boyfriend jeans this year and I’m contemplating putting some holes in these ones…. What do you think? I am obsessed with these Sole Society Sheila Heels and they easily can dress up any outfit. What’s your favorite go-to heels?

Radiant with AVEENO

Self-conscious is the word that comes to mind when talking about my skin. Ever since junior high I’ve never felt super confident about skin as I feel like I have a blemishes and scarring! It’s embarrassing but we’re talking about blackheads, large pores, and an uneven skin tones throughout my face. I’ve learned over the years to look past some of these things that will probably never go away but it has been something hard to get over. I’m definitely a minimal makeup gal so the uneven patches on my face have been one of my hardest things for me as I’ve grown up. When asked to test Aveeno Balancing Positively Radiant Targeted Tone Corrector, I was so excited to finally try out a product for my uneven skin tone. I love the way this Aveeno Radiant product smells and even though I’ve only been using it for a week, I have already noticed a difference in my skin. Most of my uneven skin tone is located on my cheeks and around hairline near my eyes. I have been applying Aveeno Radiant Targeted Tone Corrector on all of these problem areas and can already notice they are significantly less noticeable.

Visit the Aveeno website to see more of their Aveeno Radiant Collection and start feeling better about your skin tone today! #RadiantwithAVEENO

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Why You Should Be Your Own Blog Photographer

Today I’m sharing something that I don’t think many people know about me and this blog. Here’s a few clues…it has to do with photography and a few handy pieces of equipment. I'm sure the title of this post gives it away anyway so say hello to the tripod! I have been shooting all of my outfit posts on this blog for the past 10-12 months with a tripod. Not my husband, my friends, or family, just me myself and I. I decided to take this route for 2 reasons:
1. As much as this blog is important to me, I got sick of forcing my husband and family members to take outfit photos. I couldn’t expect them to care as much about my blog as I do or to want to devote their precious free time to snapping photos of me and having me critic them all. After a few months of trying to force something that wasn’t going to happen, I decided it would just be me and my tripod from now on.
2.  I am a person who imagines how a photo is going to look like in my head and when the final product doesn’t look that way, I get bugged. Granted I get you’re not always going to get the best shot, but I hated having to have my family members/husband re-take photos over and over until they got it just the way I wanted. Being my own photographer has allowed me to have my own creative vision with this blog. I can alter the settings, the focus, and angle of the shot in order to achieve the “look” I’m going for.
I recently got the Canon T3i Rebel Camera for Christmas this past year and I was beyond stoked! Before this I was strictly using my iPhone (yes, with a tripod, but that’s another story I can share if people really want to know!).  My Canon camera has become an extension of my arm and it is now the only camera I use for my blog posts. I purchased this Canon camera remote on Amazon along with this amazing light-weight tripod and I have loved it! These are both affordable items you can buy and are ESSENTIAL to making being your own blog photographer that much easier.
Sometimes I’ll admit it I do envy those bloggers who have the lucky photographer/husband duo like Caraloren or  Gal Meets Glam…but for my relationship, this is what works best and it has made this blog all the more special because it is entirely mine. The photos, the writing, the design, everything!
So to all my fellow fashion bloggers who get sick of convincing your family, husband, or significant other to take all your photos, seriously consider getting a tripod! While it does get pretty awkward sometimes when people see me taking my own photos, it’s a fun past-time that I really enjoy. Blogging is all about taking risks and making things work for you personally. This is what works for me, and I hope it can help inspire some of you other bloggers as well! I’m more than happy to give anyone more tripod tips if they’d like, just comment or email me. I’d love to hear from you!

The Kimono is On

There’s lots of twisting and twirling in these outfit posts but when you’re wearing a gorgeous kimono how can you not?! This floral print kimono from Tilly’s is one of my favorite pieces this summer but I often find myself staring at it sitting in my closet. Even though kimonos are lightweight and trendy, they can sometimes be hard to style. I paired this kimono with some DIY high-waisted shorts, sandals and minimal jewelry. For some other ways to style kimonos you can check out how I styled this H&M dark floral kimono and this tribal printed kimono from Cotton On! I saw someone say that kimonos are the summer jacket and they couldn’t be more right. I’ve included some kimono options below that are affordable—this trend is one you want to try out!

How To Maximize Your Time on Social Media

I wonder sometimes what I did in my spare time before I had an iPhone. I’m constantly on my phone looking at Instagram, Facebook, Bloglovin, Twitter, you name it. I’m either posting or looking at other people’s posts and before I know it… I’ve been staring at my phone for an hour. Sound familiar? As much as I love what social media has brought into my life, I have been looking for ways to cut back. I’ve compiled some tips to help you shorter your time on social media while still being productive with your posts.

Everyone will have different peak traffic times depending on your time zone, blog focus, and number of followers. Think about when you look at social media. Is it first thing in the morning? On your lunch break? At night when you’re lying in bed? You can find peak times for your follower demographic by scheduling your Instagram, Facebook & Twitter posts at various times for a 2 week span to see which posts get the most views. This can help you narrow down what times of the day are the best to post in order to have the most impact on your readers.

It’s hard to be involved on all social media channels at once so find a social-media management tool to do it for you! I currently use the free version of HootSuite as an App on my phone. It allows me to shrink the URL links of my blog posts into mobile friendly URLs and I can schedule Facebook & Twitter posts up to a month in advance. This saves me so much time and gives me the capability to be engaged on social media while still having a life as well!  You can also look into other social media management tools such as SocialOomph, Sprout Social, and SocialFlow that I have heard many others really like!

In my opinion, it’s better to be really involved in a few social media channels that to have your hands in way too many. There are new social media outlets being created everyday so stick with the ones you feel comfortable and enjoying participating on. I stick with Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest as my top social media sites. Facebook has recently dwindled as a top social media site for me and I don’t feel like I get as many post views now that Facebook has altered the way they manage pages.

Social media is a great way to interact with others and build your followers. Searching & commenting on photos or tweets with a specific hashtag is an easy and quick way to engage with others that have your same interests. This is such an effective way to build relationships with others and grow your followers/readership quickly!

Do you have any other ideas I may have missed? Leave them in the comments below!

July 4th Outtakes

Can you believe the three-day weekend is already over? We had an amazing July 4th weekend spent with both sides of our family. After attending my hometown's parade and relaxed during the day, both of our families came to SLC to attend the Bees Baseball game with us! There were gorgeous fireworks at the end of the night and it was just great to have some time away from work.

Sad story about these photos-- somehow my SD card got warped while downloading photos so all of my outfit photos from July 4th got deleted! Has anyone else had this happen before? I'm pretty annoyed about it but it's just stuff so I'll get over it! Hope you all enjoyed your fourth and stay tuned for some more fun posts here on Unpredictable & Chic!
