How to Re-Do Your Bathroom for Under $20

So on January 1st something crazy happened to me. I went AWOL on our apartment. My husband can attest to the fact that I was tearing picture frames off the wall and painting just about everything in sight. I don’t know what it was but I woke up, looked at our bathroom, and had a “décor freak out”. I was determined to re-do our bathroom that day and I did just that. I’ll admit I was pretty impressed with myself at how quickly and easily it came together. I was in such a rush to change it all that I totally spaced to take before/after photos so I’ll just give you a mental picture of what the bathroom looked like PRE-me-going-berserk.

BEFORE
Navy blue, yellow, green striped shower curtain
navy and cream towels
cream bath mats
beach-themed décor and photography
Bright blue storage container

AFTER
Dark Red Shower Curtain ($10 Family Dollar)
Gold Frames ($2 Dollar Tree)
Black & White Photography (Already owned)
Deer Décor painted Gold ($.50 Thrifted)
Printables (Free Printed on our computer)
Brown Towels ($4- $2 each at Target)
Red & Gold Paint ($1 Wal-Mart)

TOTAL: $17.50

I wanted more of a luxurious, retreat feel to our bathroom than I felt we had with the original décor. I opted to go for dark red accents and to add that with the bathroom décor we already had. I switched out the navy blue elements and replaced them with gold and dark red pieces.

TIPS
For those wanting to quickly change the look/feel of their bathroom, think of another color scheme that can incorporate some of the items you already are using. You don’t have to replace everything in your bathroom to have a completely different look. I opted for just changing out the shower curtain and towels, where you could change the mats instead (you get the point). I went through some home décor in my house that I had stored away and realized it would be completely functional in this new bathroom space. I switched out picture frames we had in our original bathroom with ones we had throughout our apartment to add more gold accents… Yeah I’m a gold hoarder lately, if it’s gold, I buy it.

I'll admit this project gave me hope in myself because lately I’ve been SUPER crappy at decorating our apartment. After working all day, cooking, etc… decorating has been the last thing I’ve wanted to do.  It helped that I set aside a few hours, completely un-interrupted, to knock out this bathroom project. It took a little bit for me to get some of the picture frame locations just right and to paint the storage container and deer. So have faith in yourself, give yourself enough time, and repurpose items you have... it’ll go a long way and save you $$  in the process!
