DIY: Polka Dot Pants

DIY Polka Dot Pants!

Yes…More and More Polka Dots! I haven’t done a DIY in a while so I thought I’d put this to the test. I have been really loving the polka dot trend, but haven’t been willing to spend the $30+ dollars on all the polka dot pants I’ve been seeing around. I saw this tutorial on JennyBevlin.Com and decided it was worth a shot!

Supplies:
Fabric Paint (available at your local craft store)
Jeans/ Skinnies

Sponge ( see below for TIPS)
Polka-Dot Template

Instructions:
*Print off multiple copies of the polka-dot template on card stock, preferably.
*Lay your pants out flat and pick what leg to start on. (I recommend starting on the backside of your pants at the bottom)
*Place the template onto your pants and begin tracing or sponging the paint onto the pants (see tips below)
*Continue this process up the pant leg
*Once you have completed doing an entire side, be sure to let it dry for approximately 4 hours. Be sure to make sure it is dry before flipping it over to do the other side, you don’t want all your hard work to get smeared.
*Continue this process until you have the finished product! Let the paint dry for approximately 72 hours ( just to be safe!). I washed mine inside out and they look great!

Tips:
If you are not a patient person, this is not a project for you. It took me 3 days (off and on) to complete this project and to allow the pants to sufficiently dry.
I slanted my template slightly, instead of having the polka dots go straight across. This was just personal preference; feel free to be creative with it!
It takes a little while to get the hang of painting/sponging the dots, be patient and careful as you do everyone to ensure that it doesn’t smear. I decided not to do the sponge idea because it kept creating a bubbling effect. The fabric paint I bought had a pencil-like end to it so I just traced the dots with pencil, then went over them with the fabric paint to guarantee accuracy.

I am definitely happy I tried out this DIY. It cost me only 3 dollars for the paint and I just used some old colored jeans I had, definitely a cheap DIY. I can’t wait to show them off! Check back soon to see what I wear them with!

Faux Fur-Lined

Fur has been a must-have this winter season. I wanted to try out the trend without having to spend a fortune on a fur coat. I was lucky to come across this faux fur scarf while shopping at H&M on my lunch break (It was only $3, what a deal!) Faux fur is an easy, inexpensive way to add a little elegance to any outfit. I can add this scarf to any of my coats or sweaters to achieve a completely different look. Needless to say, this is one of my favorite winter purchases yet!

Blogging Tips

Blogging Tips

I have only been blogging for little over a month and so far I have learned that there is definitely a trick to it. My goal in having a blog is to be able to write about whatever topic I have running around in my brain and have people read and enjoy the things I write about. During my first few posts, I seriously felt as though NO ONE was reading what I had to say. Sort of depressing right? I now feel like I’m getting more of the hang of the whole blogging thing and am building up a good bunch of followers! (THANK YOU EVERYONE!) I have dedicated this post to all you bloggers out there that need a few tips on how to attract new audiences and spice up your blog posts.

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE
Whatever you choose to write about whether that’s fashion, DIY projects, or your favorite recipes, it is important to know your audience. Knowing your audience can help you decide how to best market your blog to the online world. I suggest by first, adding Google Analytics to your blog page. Refer to Getting The Most Out Of Google Analytics for easy tips on how to do this! Google Analytics breaks down your blog viewers for you, giving you statistics on how long people are staying on your page, where they live, what sites referred them to your page, etc.  This will be helpful throughout your blogging experience can give you an idea of what audience is viewing your page and how you can improve.

IT’S ALL ABOUT NETWORKING
There are plenty of sites available for you to network on. You just got to put yourself out there! Here are some easy ways that can help you generate followers and up your blog views.

*Post your blog posts to your Facebook page, Twitter or Instagram.
Notify friends and family of your new blog via email or text. Have them check out your site then refer more friends (a.k.a Instant networking!)

*Join blog sites such as Bloglovin.com, Blogfrog.com, and Google + Communities. All of these sites offer great networking tools and can allow you to increase what blogs you follow as well.

*Post some of your pictures or tutorials on Pinterest. Pinterest has TONS of participants now and items can easily be passed down to all of your Pinterest followers.

SPICE UP YOUR PAGEMake your blog page a direct reflection of your personality. I added bows and the color coral to my page, reflecting some of my personal fashion favorites. Don’t try to make this alter-online version of yourself. Flaunt your true passions and trust me, there’s somebody out there who will appreciate and be inspired by your own unique style.

ADD ELEMENTS TO YOUR PAGE
This goes hand-in-hand with the tip listed above. There are many elements you can add to your page to increase views. Adding LinkWithin allows for your other blog posts to be displayed as thumbnails at the end of each post, helping to invite viewers to see your previous posts. Adding buttons are also a great way for others to add you to their site, creating a direct link back to your page.
I FINALLY decided to make one of these… let me know what you think and be sure to add it to your page please!!!

FOLLOW OTHERS
The blog community is a fun place to be. Immerse yourself in it and follow as many blogs as possible. There are so many great sites out there with tons of tips, ideas, and fun reads! People are going to be more likely to check out your site if you are interacting with other bloggers and networking as well.

Here is a list of websites I used when designing and networking my blog. Check them out and hopefully they can be of help to you as well! ENJOY!

Book Review: Starstruck by Lauren Conrad

BOOK REVIEW: Starstruck By Lauren Conrad
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to read a new book every month. For January I chose to read “Starstruck” by Lauren Conrad, part of the Fame Game series. I received this book from my husband for Christmas and was dying to read what would come next.

The book continues to follow the lives of Madison Parker, Kate Hayes, Carmen Curtis and Gaby. I enjoyed how this book gave more insight into each characters life, specifically by showing how they each dealing with their own set of problems and setbacks. I grew to dislike Madison Parker throughout the first book series and liked how this book showed a deeper side to Madison that hadn’t really been seen before.
This book kept me on my toes the whole time. With new love interests, twists from Trevor and the final hospital scene, I am dying to know what happens in the last installment, “Infamous”, set to be released on June 11th, 2013.

If you are a Lauren Conrad lover like me, I’m sure you will love these books. Lauren is an amazing writer; her writing style makes it easy to follow along through the different twists and turns of the book. I have really enjoyed all of her books thus far! I feel like they give an insider’s look into how the world of reality TV works and all the things that come with it being rich and famous. It’s an easy read that will definitely keep you entertained the whole way through.

Rice Krispie Football Treats

My husband’s world revolves around football. It’s on all day, every day during football season. We are definitely excited for Super bowl this year. The super bowl has long been a fun tradition to watch the game, enjoy hilarious commercials and munch on amazing food.
I decided to make the Rice Krispie’s Football Treats as my addition to the fattening, sugar-filled treats we will all be munching on. Below is the recipe that I got from the Kellogg’s website! I’ve listed my tips below for making this recipe so be sure to look at them!

RECIPE
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 package of regular marshmallows or 4 cups of miniature marshmallows
½ cup peanut butter
6 cups Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies cereal
canned Frosting or decorating Gel

DIRECTIONS
In a microwave-safe bowl, heat butter and marshmallows on high for 3 minutes, stirring after 2 minutes. Stir until smooth. Add peanut butter, stirring until smooth. Add KELLOGG’S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well combined. Cool Slightly. Using buttered hands, shape mixture into sixteen 3-inch footballs. Decorate with frosting. Best if served the same day.
You can store these at room temperature for 2 days in an airtight container. You can also freeze them by placing them in a single layer on wax paper in an airtight container.

THE FINAL PRODUCT

TIPS
I came up with a good, inexpensive alternative to doing the decorative frosting. I didn’t have one of those fancy frosting bags and was bummed when using my knife to decorate didn’t make them look very good… I decided to use  a small Ziploc bag, and just cut one of the tips slightly. I put the frosting in the bag, zipped it up and WAH-LA. I had my very own frosting bag that allowed me to be more precise when decorating the footballs! Also, be sure you have your hands really buttered because this will be a very messy process!

They were really easy to make and turned out really good. I apologize for some of the pictures; they got a little too up-close on the treats so it looks like sausage or something! They really don’t look like that in real life, promise!

Happy Friday and Enjoy Your Super Bowl Weekend!
