I love to go above and beyond when it comes to the holidays. I enjoy being original and creating my own style items when I get the chance! I couldn’t resist doing the DIY American Flag Tee project that I found via Almost Endearing. I loved doing this DIY project. It was so fun and extremely easy!
Make your own DIY American Flag Tee by following these steps:
Buy a white shirt from the thrift store or use an old one that you never wear
Purchase red and blue fabric paint via Michaels ($1.88 per bottle).
I recommend buying the fabric paint that has a little nozzle
(see photo), it allows for you to be more detailed when you are creating the stripes and stars on the shirt!
Use tape/painter’s tape and place on shirt to make the stripes section and stars section on the shirt.
Print out “star” clip art from the internet, place on the shirt and tape in order for them to stay. Use the nozzled fabric paint to trace around the clip art. Remove star cut-outs when finished.
Start painting! You don’t necessarily have to fill in the stripes or blue section of the flag completely, it looks a little more edgy if you leave some empty spaces!
Let the shirt dry flat for approximately 4 hours. Do not wash for 72 hours.
Feel free to be creative! There's no right or wrong way to do this! As you can see I cut the sleeves off the 3/4 sleeve white shirt I had to make this look more appropriate for summer.
